Mercury Intermedia / Sports Illustrated Release Updated mySI Desktop
BRENTWOOD, Tennessee—March 21, 2008—In its first major update since launching in September of 2006, Sports Illustrated’s mySI desktop, developed in conjunction with Mercury Intermedia, now has a new look, new features, and overall platform improvements. “In the 18 months since it’s launch, we’ve learned a lot from our user base as well as our platform developers as to how to improve the product, and this new release represents the next phase of mySI,” said Mike Ligon, Vice President of Product Development. “We certainly didn’t want the product to get stale. Despite the brilliant photographic content, we wanted to make sure our users stayed interested.”
In addition to major under-the-hood platform improvements that boosted the overall speed and stability of the product, there were also navigational and interface changes. “In the older version, all of the navigation was shoved into one spot, so it was easy for elements to get lost,” explained Rusty Mitchell, Creative Director for Mercury Intermedia. “Splitting out the nav functionality into top and bottom segments, as well as changing some of the icons and layout, should make for an improved user experience.”
Ligon also notes that the new upgraded platform will allow the mySI screensaver and desktop toolbar to extend into some of Mercury Intermedia’s new desktop technologies, such as the newly integrated SI Swimsuit Calendar, and more.
Since it’s launch, mySI desktop has generated millions of sponsor impressions for marketers such as Nissan, Circuit City, Finish Line, Comcast, Dodge, AT&T, HP, Miller, and Radio Shack, among others. In addition, the product has achieved millions of hours of engagement with it’s installed users.
